When we first got put into our final film groups the film concept was to have a stalker following a young girl whilst she was with her group of friends celebrating the end of school. We wanted to include romance within the horror/thriller genre which was our set genre. So we had the idea that, the girl who was being followed would have a boyfriend who was discreetly a friend of the stalkers. Audiences would see the two faces the boyfriend has and would sympathise with the girl. As a group we also had the idea of having people die or miraculously disappear, this would bring out all the gore in the film.
However, we came across many problems with this story line.
- For a title sequence of 2 minutes long there would be too many characters that would be involved and victimised. This would confuse audiences and make them loose interest from the very start of the film. Having only one or two characters within the whole sequence would make audiences connect with the characters and the film concept more.
- Having the friends of the main girl die or miraculously disappear brings out too much information for a title sequence. Audiences would have figured out what would happen to the girl by this time and they would have felt bored of the whole film already. This leaves no enigmas for the audience and therefore they do not feel emotionally engaged with the characters or the film concept.
- Consuming all this information would make the title sequence seem more of a film trailer; this would anger audiences as the rest of the film would be a waste.
- When our group was given audience feedback we took into account that this film concept is way to common.
Taking into consideration the disadvantages we had with the first film concept, we then discussed a better and more sufficient concept for the film which ties in well with the 2-3 minute title sequence in the beginning.
We decided to get rid of all the characters apart from the main girl character who will remain the victim in the film, her best friend and the boyfriend of the main girl character. The boyfriend is not in the sequence throughout; the idea is to only have the boyfriend only part of the flashback that the girlfriend has of the couple together. Then later have a voiceover of the boyfriend’s voice at the end of the title sequence. As a group we finalised that we did not want the boyfriend to be in the whole of title sequence, in order for the title sequence to be less crowded and congested with too many characters. Now the final film concept is to have the best friend be immensely jealous and invidious of the main character, leading to a bloody and gory death. The boyfriend is aware of the best friend’s secret hatred for the girlfriend and warns his girlfriend to be careful. This is a much simpler version of the first film concept we thought about, but however this final film concept will create more enigmas and make audiences more interested and emotionally engaged with the characters.
Group Blocked plan
- The sequence will start with an establishing shot of the protagonists bedroom. The protagonist will be Zeba.
- This will then follow up with cut on action of the two girls going up stairs to then going in to the bedroom.
- as the two girls enter the bedroom we will do a close up shot of the radio playing (the music played has not be choosing yet, but it should surely reflect the genre.)
- Dialogue will then take place between the two girls, Hannah will be admiring Zeba's house and as the conversation gets interesting Zeba's phone will ring and it will be her talking to her boyfriend.
- Then there will be a split screen of Zeba on the phone talking to her boyfriend and Hannah looking at Zeba's baby and family photos. This will then lead in to Hannah crossing out Zeba's face with a make up pencil.
- When the split screen will end their will be a medium shot of Hannah looking in to a mirror, behind her will be zeba on the phone.
- Hannah will then ask Zeba if she can sharpen her make up pencil, as she is sharpening the pencil there will be a close up of the sharpening and then the edge of the pencil.
- As the pencil is sharpened there will be a shot of Hannah stabbing Zeba with the make up pencil.
- This will then flashback in to the actual moment of time, the audience will realise that it was all in Hannah's head.
- As Zeba gets off of the phone, she will turn to see Hannah mirroring her face next to Zeba's, as this happen a black out will occur and then the title will come up.
