In the opening of the title sequence the camera zooms in to the spaceship, and then we have a close up. This informs the viewers that the film is of a science-fiction genre. The low and intensive music gives the characteristics of a horror genre, as viewers feel drawn in to a gloomy mystery. Gradually the title 'ALIEN' appears onto the screen, which further engages the viewers and creates mystery, fear and anxiety. No characters are shown in this title sequence, although viewers are aware of the textual symbol of 'Crew 7' which implies that humans are involved when we are shown a close up of the spaceship. A number of enigmas are set out to the audience about the spaceship and its crew. Who is part of the crew? Are the still alive? And where has the spaceship come from?
