The strengths of the preliminary project was the location, props, the range of shots, costume and the plot line created.
What was successful about the location was that it was very unique and the atmosphere fit in very well with the scenario. As a group we tried to think outside the box but still had to stick to the criteria given. We decided to do the scene in an empty car park and in a car. Inside of the car was were the main conversation took place. This worked well as the ambient noise did not disturb the main conversation and full focus was on the conversation, which was the most important part as audiences needed to understand what the situation was between the two characters.
We used as many props as possible to make the 2-3 minute clip as realistic as can be. Handing over the money we used a white envelope with a number of ten pound notes inside. The notes were photocopied and the envelopes was slightly crumpled to give the effect to viewers that it was dodgy money that was being given. Another prop that was used to make the situation real as possible was a baseball bat taken out from the boot of the car. The reason why we used a baseball bat apart from any other weapon like a gun was because we did not want to give the idea to the viewers that the characters were rich or even that much of a threat to society by holding a gun.
The range of shots were varied from point of view shots to medium shots and we attempted to do some shot reverse shots as well when the two main characters were having there conversation.
The costume that the characters were wearing was very street casual. This worked well with the situation as they looked like ordinary day to day people, which meant that nobody would suspect them or even give a second glance to them.
What did not work so well in the 2-3 minute clip was the composition, make-up,the ambient sound in the background, the editing included too many jump cuts, confidence with the camera was needed, in the fight scene more realism was needed.
I say that more realism was needed in the fight because it was all in a medium long shot. If the shots were more varied then audiences would really feel the tension and the intense fighting that was going on. For instance when Arvinder is punching Oscar on the floor a high angle and low angle shot could have been used to show Oscars expression and Arvinders wrist pounding him. A point of view shot could have also been used when Oscar is lying down on the floor looking upwards at Arvinder. This would have made the clip much more epic and meaningful.
The make-up was not at its best because the fake blood that was used looked like watered down barbecue sauce, which did not give the complete image to the audiences that Oscar was brutally hurt.
The composition of some shots were really bad because the tops of heads and sides of faces were cut out by the camera. This made the clip seem extremely amateur and made the situation look fake and very staged.
The editing was to be look over once more. There was far too many jump cuts which made the clip jumpy, as a result to this audiences could not enjoy the clip. With the editing I needed to include more invisible editing so that the clip could run smoothly.
In the group of three, not one of us were completely confident with the camera. This made an affect to the outcome of the shots taken and so the clip was not made to the best of its ability.
